Join us every Sunday evening from July 6th to August 24th for our 2025 Community Trail Hiker Meals from 5:30pm until 7:00pm-ish at the Lake City Trail Hiker Center, (AKA the Presbyterian Annex) located at 418 Silver Street in historic downtown Lake City.
The meal is 100% free (and we don’t accept donations from hikers who are actively on the CDT or the Colorado Trail) and includes a variety of animal-based protein dish and vegetarian options (and there’s usually a few options for vegans too).
Schedule and themes for meals this summer (2025)
July 6th–Local Street Tacos
We’ll kick off the season with local street tacos, feature locally hunted elk and topped with pickled red onions, Mexican cheese, cilantro, Serrano peppers, and a special secret spicy sauce (in the fountain).
July 13th–Cubanos
For our second hiker dinner, we’ll break in our new panini grill and serve grilled Cubanos, featuring slow cooked pork in a mojo marinade, cured ham, seasoned pickles, Swiss cheese, and a special Cuban mustard sauce.
July 20th–Chicken Pad Thai
We’re going to be a little daring for our third meal by offering Chicken Pad Thai. Join us for an evening of Asian fare.
July 27th–Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving in July is the only theme to return every year of our hiker dinners. We’ll be roasting several turkeys and the community provides all the sides and fixing. The Continental Divide Trail Council will be present at this meal.
August 3rd–Sudanese Pepper Chicken and Rice
We’ll start our August hiker meals with our World Food theme. This year, we’ll be offering a Sudanese Pepper Chicken served over rice. If you’ve never had it, it’s a tomato based curry that combines peanuts (we’ll be using almond butter), peppers, onions, chicken, and a whole mess of amazing herbs and spices.
August 10th–Grilled Cheese Pizza Panini
In order to break out our new panini grill one more time this summer, we’ll be serving up some grilled cheese pizza paninis–pepperoni, onions, pizza sauce, and gooey mozzarella smashed between two pieces of Texas toast on the panini grill.
August 17th–Oktoberfest!
Back for another year by popular demand, we’re having our very own Oktoberfest! Join us for grilled sausages, sauerkraut, and brochen, as our community brings all the sides to make this one of our most epic meals.
August 24th–Jerk Chicken and Rice
We’ll finish off our hiker dinners with a new addition to summer with Jamaican Jerk Chicken over rice. With Bob Marley’s greatest hits in the background, we’ll feast on delicious fare from the islands. Join us for the last meal of the summer.
The Lake City Hiker Center strives to be a zero-waste community. We know that the preservation of the environment is important to trail hikers. To that end, we offer reusable melamine plates and bowls, plastic cups, ceramic mugs, metal flatware, and cloth napkins. We only empty our trash cans when full (or stinky) and we offer two filtered water stations (one indoor and one outdoors that is available 24 hours a day).
